Principal Engineer

Talespin is hiring a Principal Engineer to own the leadership and responsibilities of providing expert technical leadership across multiple aspects of projects within the company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, and evangelizing our technology initiative, while embodying the team player mentality we pride ourselves in having. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical implementation efforts via modern software development patterns and best practices. Be a "first responder" to the most complicated engineering problems
  • Direct management and mentoring of engineering reports including holding reports accountable to their expected contribution for their position.
  • Perform expert-level technical feasibility studies and recommendations across our entire product portfolio
  • Identify “Build vs Buy” situations and lead decision-making efforts for technology middleware and partnerships
  • Work with product owners and marketing departments in project scoping, scheduling, and milestone expectations

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science or relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Unity and/or Unreal game engines, fluent C# and C++
  • 10+ years of software development experience
  • Proven track record of technical leadership positions across multiple successfully shipped products
  • Experience developing for VR/AR/MR
  • Ability to architect technical solutions from scratch, sometimes with incomplete sets of data
  • Experience working within an agile development environment with excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable taking on new and unproven technical challenges on cutting edge or prototype hardware

One or more of these is a plus:

  • Multiplayer or network programming experience
  • Server-side or database programming

Senior Unity Developer

We’re currently seeking a Senior Unity Developer who has a strong sense of attention to detail and understanding that learning never stops in the world of technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee development of interactive virtual- and mixed-reality experiences
  • Guide technical work in the studio and contribute to the broader studio development roadmap
  • End-to-end development of new features from technical design to implementation and testing, to documentation and deployment
  • Translate design and product documentation into technical specifications
  • Provide technical leadership through assisting the team with technical questions, authoring debugging tools, and providing long term software support
  • Analyze application performance and architect low level optimizations as needed

Requirements:

  • Expert understanding of data structures, 3D math, C#, and the Unity asset and build pipeline
  • Experience with Unity team project best-practices (prefabs, asset naming, organized scene hierarchy)
  • Experience with git, Perforce, or other version control software as appied to Unity development
  • Familiarity with realtime multiplayer data exchange including UDP vs. TCP transmission as applied to Unity applications
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative and global Agile development environment

One or more of these is a plus:

  • VR/MR/AR experience
  • Mobile development experience (iOS/Android)

Senior 3D Artist / Generalist

Creativity is at the heart of our success. But it’s not enough to have great ideas. To successfully demonstrate the kind of innovations that our clients have come to expect of us requires not only an active imagination but extremely sophisticated technical skills, especially in the realm of 3D imagery. That’s where you come in. The Senior 3D Generalist is responsible for coming up with strong design solutions and then creating flawless and engaging 3D imagery to effectively convey them to clients. The right candidate will demonstrate a strong base of knowledge in digital content creation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute new and exciting art styles
  • Improve the existing art production workflow and propose or develop tools to optimize the asset creation process
  • Collaborate with other artists, engineers, producers, designers, and marketing talent in order to address a variety of asset requests
  • Provide constructive feedback to other artists and graphics engineers to assist in growing the entire team’s understanding of technical art best practices
  • Participate in art reviews and respond to critical feedback in a professional manner
  • Integrate 3D assets into the Unity 3D game engine

 

Requirements:

  • Game industry or film related experience as a 3D artist
  • Experience with Unity or Unreal with a track record of shipped games or products
  • Outstanding skills in 3D Max or Maya, ZBrush and Photoshop
  • Low- and high polygon modeling experience
  • Strong understanding of the graphics pipeline, including shader development using engine or 3rd party tools. Should be comfortable with shader properties such as refraction, blur, warp, tinting, saturation, and aberration
  • Attention to detail and technical proficiency in all aspects of render optimizations, UV Mapping, textures, shaders and LOD’s
  • Practical experience combining lighting (baked & realtime), reflections, post-processing FX, and emerging rendering techniques to make scenes visually compelling
  • Exceptional understanding of shape, structure and silhouette in regard to modeling
  • Ability to make good artistic judgments on form, color, composition
  • Ability to develop and communicate ideas and concepts in a visual manner
  • Superior eye for color, contrast, value and detail when creating textures and materials
  • Be able to follow and adapt to stylistic guidelines set by the Art Director
  • Ability to create optimized 3D assets for animation
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative and Agile development environment;
  • Visual effects and/or particle effects skills

One or more of these is a plus:

  • VR experience
  • Familiarity with character animation and tools for asset importing, rigging, animation blending, and rag-doll style physics
  • Familiar with versioning management systems (Perforce, Git, etc.) and game engine collaboration best-practices (prefabs, asset naming, organized directory hierarchies, etc.)

As a Social Media Intern, you’ll be responsible for creating social media content with a focus on Talespin’s Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Medium, and Instagram. This position requires a high degree of initiative, very strong organizational skills, a creative mindset, effective communication, ability to prioritize efficiently and manage complex processes, enthusiastic can-do attitude, and a desire to learn new skills as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Content creation for Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Medium, and Instagram
  • Creating and managing social media campaigns to promote Talespin
  • Responsible to engage and grow followers, and networking base
  • Assist in reporting and analysis of key metrics for all social platforms
  • Stay up to date on the latest news on VR/AR

Requirements:

  • Passion for and experience with social media a must
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced at using social community management tools such as Hootsuite and Mailchimp
  • Strategic thinker, detail-oriented, and motivated
  • Time management skills; eager to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work 2-3 days a week
